This is the debut disc (since her 2013 EP) for Montreal’s Bobby Dove. The gifted singer/songwriter has dedicated the disc to her mentor, Bobby Hill, singer, songwriter, musician, teacher, historian, and one of Canada’s first country music DJs, who passed away in 2015.
He was also the resident lap steel player at the legendary Wheel Club, where Bobby cut her teeth performing, and we’re sure he’d be proud of her first disc, which features one of his tunes, Welcome To The Real World Again (with hot pedal steel by Chris Altmann).
Produced by James McKenty (Blue Rodeo and Gordon Lightfoot) it showcases her unique voice, playing, and songwriting talents. Stand-out tracks are Casualty, Another Doggone Day (which also showcases Laura Bates on fiddle and Burke Carroll on lap steel) and probably the best songwriting on Too Late To Go Home, a tribute to some of her heroes.
Her own electric guitar licks feature on the instrumental Floor Licker. It’s a strong debut from a talented newcomer.
